What is an adjustable resistor? How are its three legs connected?
Adjustable resistors, also known as variable resistors, are symbolized by the letters "R" or "RH". Adjustable resistors are a type of resistor whose resistance value can be manually adjusted. Adjustable resistors can be divided into many different models and types according to their resistance value, adjustment range, adjustment form, manufacturing process, manufacturing material, volume size, and so on.
In theory, the resistance value of an adjustable resistor can be adjusted to any value within 0 and the nominal value. However, due to practical structural and design accuracy requirements, it is often not easy to achieve 100% of the "arbitrary" requirement. It is only "basically" adjusted within the allowable range to change the resistance value. Commonly used adjustable resistors usually have 3 pins. Do you know how to wire the 3 pins of an adjustable resistor?
Adjustable resistor 3-pin wiring method
Adjustable resistors generally have three terminal blocks, with the left and right fixed, and the resistance between them is the resistance value of this adjustable resistor. The first terminal is the movable arm pin in the middle of the resistor, which can adjust the resistance value. Then connect the remaining two wiring terminals to the other left and right pins, and connect the two fixed terminals of the adjustable resistor in series in the circuit to change the resistance value.
